Basement

A stagecraft studio from Mikro Theater — practical training in professional theater for young people who are outside the framework of higher education.

"Basement" operates from a deep belief in the power of art to create real change. Our workshops offer practical training in theater — acting, set design, technical work — and open a door to belonging, personal expression, and professional development. Each cohort is built as a personal, tailored track, combining group learning with guidance from an artistic and therapeutic team.

What makes this unique is the connection to a living theater: the practical tracks lead participants into an internship within actual Mikro productions — real experience in a supportive, embracing environment.

Yefim Rinenberg, Mikro's artistic director, is one of those teenagers who took part in the very first theater group in Gilo, three decades ago. Today he's the one leading the program's renewal — out of personal memory and social vision.

The project was born as a direct continuation of "Basement Theater," which operated in Jerusalem between 2005 and 2019 and gave a foundation to dozens of young people — some became working artists, others integrated into academic and professional frameworks. We're returning to our roots.
